I was just wondering why this site seems so unislamic.I recently just found a poll asking if anyone celebrated chrstmas!wat i found disturbing was that a some [edited] muslims actually celbrate it! and second that it was even on this website. Like, come on were muslims, were not christains.
Also forum questions like "what kind of music are u listening to?" Music is Haraam and we all know that! I think it depens mostly on wat your parents actually teach u about Islam.theres also alot of other things i noticed but i dont want to start ranting.
PS: do most of the people on this website live in Europe? I live in Canada in the capital city of the province Manitoba which is winnipeg.

Re: why does this site seem very unislamic?
Assalamu Alaikum Mohamed,
Welcome to the site
Firstly, does it not depend on how you "celebrate" Christmas? I, for example, go to a Muslim family friends house and have dinner. We "celebrate" Christmas without going to Church in the morning, without the presents, without the Christmas tree, without setting a cake on fire with alcahol. It's simply an excuse to bring families together and spend quality time together. In the evening on Christmas, we read the Islamic story of Isa (as). I am sure that the Muslims who "celebrate" Christmas are "celebrating" it as a way of socializing with other family and friends and thinking about the life of Jesus. We may not be Christians, but do we not believe in Jesus/Christ/Isa Alayhisalaam?
Secondly, "Music is Haraam and we all know that!" is a very brave statement. Does it not depend on the school of thought your practise? Music is a dangerous thing, i know that. But from what i have learnt, it does not say in the Qur'an "Music is Haraam.". What about nasheeds? And the duff?
Even if the youth on this site are not the best of Muslims - we have had the courage to join this site, speak to other brothers and sister and discuss important issues in our modern society. So maybe we can learn from each other to better our deen. After all, nobody's perfect
Two points about this site should not make you think it is 'Unislamic' what so ever... Jazakhallah for posting your thoughts though...
Wasalaam,
Humaira
PS I'm from Bristol, England (near london). And there are some people here who live in Malaysia and America etc too!

Re: why does this site seem very unislamic?
Disrespect towards other members is not tolerated hence I have edited something in your first post.
Firstly, welcome to the site, I hope you can spread your views over the whole site
It's a well known fact that the date of birth of Jesus is not 25th December however it's the date used to mark the occasion. Muslims also believe in Jesus, just not the same way Christians do. Also, celebrating christmas has become more of a social norm rather than something done with religious reasons. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, it doesn't demean your status as a muslim.
The topic is "What are you listening to?" and if you read the first post it's not exclusive to music. However, the members that post do listen to music and are listening to music so they post that. We can't force them not to. As Humaira said, the music subject is a touchy one particularly amongst youth today.
I also think that members on this site have a reached a stage or level of maturity where they are able to absorb everything their parents have taught them and use that alongside the knowledge they have attained themselves and arrive at a conclusion as to how they will act.
I think it's unfair to say that the site is unislamic. If you read around topics we have a lot of topics asking for an Islamic viewpoint, however they're not your everyday topics, they're subjects that don't often get brought up. Topics such as masturbation and homosexuality. We can look at these with a strong Islamic viewpoint and that's what we do. The people behind the scenes also try and bring in Islamic things, if you look at the 3 videos we've put up, the first being about Shahr Ramadhan, the second about fashion for Muslims and the 3rd about Muharram. Our current article is about the significance of Muharram to people. If you go back a few you'll see a lot of the stuff about Shahr Ramadhan.
We are always open to suggestions so either PM me or e-mail mynet@myh.org.uk to share any suggestions you may have on how to improve the religious nature of this website.
I am from England however as Humaira mentioned we have people from Malaysia and all sorts.
Moved to Problem & Suggestions.

I like that - debating not offending. But yeah we're pretty laidback so apart from directly disrespecting other members and posting obscene material, you can go wild!
