Hi... im new here but over the last few weeks i have been reading a few of the post which have been really interesting and an eye opener... so here's kinda my story and interest...
I am a vietnamese roman catholic girl and currently in a relationship with a bengali muslim boy... we've been together for over a year and already have gone through so much with both of our families... and friends... some if not most of them do know about us but they have been quite judgemental and rather negative about our realtionship...
I know that it says in the Qu'ran that Muslim men are allowed to marry any women who follows the book...
so what i dont understand is... why are people in general not accepting of inter-religious relationships?
and i wanted to get another opinion... can inter-religious relationships such as mine work?
i apologise in advance if i do or have offended anyone... this is just all out of interest and to get a better understanding!! hope to hear from you all soon!! thanks for reading my post!!

Re: inter-religion relationships...?!!
Salam,
The response which you have received is quite common amongst the muslim community not only to inter-faith marriages but numerous other things as well. Majority of the Muslims put culture above Islam so that is a major problem and one of the top reasons why your possible marriage with this muslim man is disliked.
However, there could be genuine concern from his family as well. The man you are with may be weak in faith and might not raise his children on Islam. This is a genuine fear that may be shared by the family.
All in all however, it is mainly two things:
1. They place culture above religion.
2. They are afraid of something that is rare or uncommon.
