Life in Yemen by Marwan

My name is Marwan and I used to live in Yemen until my parents decided to move me to London for a better education.
Living in Yemen is very different from living in London, I lived in a place where I was surrounded by Muslims, I woke up to the sound of the azan and to the words of salaam wa alykam. Being in a Muslim community made it easier to communicate with each other
School here is very different compared to Yemen, when it comes to education you can’t bribe the teacher like you do in Yemen. I think I am actually going to have to work for my grades in London. I have a good chance at a better future in London and the only reason why I am here.
As a 15 year old in Yemen I would usually be going out with my friends, hang out in malls as well as coffee shops and go on the internet. Since the fighting began in Yemen it was difficult to do anything so we would go to each others’ houses
Yemen used to be a very peaceful country until this civil war hit us. At the beginning it used to be just about protesting, something we can all handle. What’s wrong with having change? But of course things got worse; it was very difficult to cope with, some streets were not safe. The people around me kept on changing, but what hurts the most is knowing that the people who are my age were going to these protests, but Alhamdulillah I stayed away. I used to go to coffee shops to study with my friends but now I can’t because gun fire is everywhere.
There are not a lot of things we can do in Yemen compared to London. I would love Yemen to have more things like arcades or cinemas. It would also be nice in the summer to have more activities as it would keep lots of us from hanging out in the streets, things like camping or sports centres as well as swimming pools.
I miss Yemen as I miss my old life, but most of all I miss my parents and friends, being worried about them is really hard. But the problems in Yemen keep on getting worse. Starting a new life in London is exciting, but some days are boring, but I can’t wait for the road ahead.

Yemen sounds like a really good place. I use to live in
London. it was always very busy and sometimes the
teachers can be racist. it was hard to like go out by urself
with mates coz ur always scared if someone is gonna mug u
or abduct u. But since i moved to scotland things got a little
better and my grades were amazingly high! and i wasnt
afraid of going out :) Thanks to all mighty Allah xx
